Try to Become a Thinker than Merely a Good Worker

There are two kinds of failures:

The man who will do nothing he is told;

and, the man, who will do nothing else.

The first kind is utterly useless for any organization and sooner or later will get replaced, The second kind come under the obedient workers category. function well in their presence but they are always at the risk of loosing  on innovation and creativity which can both uplift the organization and also make it unique among other competitors.

What an organization needs is to have people who can 'think' and think out of box too.

Let's Not Weaken Our Children

The tree that never had to fight for Sun and Sky and Air and Light, That stoodout in the open plain and always got its share of rain, Never became  a forest king but died a scrubby thing.

Good timber does not grow with ease. the stonger the wind, the stronger the tree.

When we shower too much of love upon our children and provide them with all that they need without even their asking or desring them we are doing more harm  to them than enabling them to become useful and strong in their lives.

We weaken them by being there with them for solving all their issues. We don't provide opportuntiy to them to face the world with boldness and find solutions for themselves. We deprive them of practice ground to sharpen their life skills.

The Child Has His Own Future

The greatest obligation to our children is; to prepare them to understand and deal effecively with the world; in which they will  live and not with the wrold we have known, or the world we would prefer to have.

Khalil Gibran has so beautifully expressed these feeling in his famous book The Prophet. When the Prophet was asked by the people to comment upon 'The Children' this is what he had said:-

“Your children are not your children.
They are sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you.
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the make upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness.
For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He also loves the bow that is stable.”

He says that the soul of  the children dwell in the house of tomorrow. The children have to life in future that we as  their parents or grandparents can't even imagine.

The philospher emphasises the fact that we should not force our opinions upon our children but at the same time he also lays emphasis that the parents need to ensure that the child becomes both strong and discilplined in life and for this if required he needs to be strong in handling them.

Pressure from Within Begins a LIfe

Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anyone expects of you. Never excuse yourself.

It is well said that pressure for outside breaks an egg and thereby ends a life. But on the other hand when the chick from withing the egg breaks open the egg shell and comes out the pressure from within begins a life.

Similary unless and untill we reach the level of self improvement, unless and untill we develop a desire to excel no outer pressure  can help us attain our set targets.

Purify from Within

Possessing a sweet tongue but a rotten heart will not do us any good.

Gurbani says that we may speak sweetly with the people around us but within our hearts we carry negativity and bad thoughts will be like trying to churn water for butter.

The ultimate aim for all of us should be to purify ourselves from within.

There's no other way to attain salvation.

How to Teach Compassion

Normally it is seen that when a child trips and falls off or gets hurt from an object and starts crying, mother comes rushing towards him and not only picks him up in her lap but also starts hitting the floor upon which the child had fallen or the object due to which the child had got hurt. This she does inorder to pacify the child so that he stops crying. But in doing so she iinvariably creates an impression in the mind of the child that whatever or whosoever  hurts you should be punished. She sows the seed of, "Revengefulness" in the mind of the child for his entire life.

Only if the mother can react by both picking up the child in her lap and simultaneously  caress and cajole the floor upon which the child had fallen or the object with which the child had got hurt or wounded the child will develop to look around him with compassion and care.

Right or Wrong Path the Choice is Yours

Each time you are honest and conduct yourself with honesty, a success force will drive you toward greatter success.

Each time you lie, even with a little white lie, there are strong forces pushing you toward failure.

What you hear and belief so you become.

M K Gandhi has so nicely put this in the following golden words:-

“Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.”

The story of the Two Wolves is a popular legend of an unknown  origin.  It is a story of a grandfather using a metaphor of two wolves fighting within him to explain his inner conflicts to his grandson. When his grandson asks which wolf wins, the grandfather answers whichever he chooses to feed is the one that wins.

It is strongly believed world over that whatever we do continuously for 21 days it becomes a habit irrelevant of the fact whether we do good things or bad.

As the Mighty Lord has blessed us with the great POWER to CHOOCE why can't we make the RIGHT choice of choosing the RIGHT and GOOD habits and make not only our life beautiful and sublime but that of all others connected with us?

Aas kariye Ram ki Avra aas nirass

Air can't save a man falling from a height.

Smoke can't save a man getting burnt with fire.

Waves can't save a man from drowning in the ocean.

In other words we may say that a weaker element can't be of a great help to a person in need.

The only support that one should look forward to is that of the Almighty Lord who is all pervading, ominipresent, self sufficient and merciful.

Hence it is rightly said in Guru Granth Sahib ji, "Aas kariye Ram ki Avra aas niraas."

Looking for support else where will always be futile.

Ek Simar!  Ek Simar! Ek Simar re Bande!

Acts of Responsibilities

Life is the acceptance of responsibilities or their evasion; it is a business of meeting obligations or avoiding them.

To every man the choice is continually being offerem and by the manner of his choosing, you may fairly, measure him.

In a workplace duties are assigned to the empoyess by the employer or the manager expecting the best from them.

Few employees take on the the assigned duties with  utmost seriousness and execute them to the best of their abilities because they love to do so.

Few execute the duties out of fear.

And few are expert in neither bothering to consult the seniors  nor even executing their tasks.

The Real Heroes

It is really sad that we make the reel scripted film actors and actresses as our idols and glorify them.

If at all anyone has to be called real heroes  then they should  be ones who join the Defence Services  of any nation.

No other profession in the word involves risk to life as much as the Defence Services.

Even the word, ‘Martyr’ has been misused to the extent that it becomes disrespectful for the people who lay down their lifes in Defence Forces.

God Helps Those Who Help Themselves

It is well said that God gives every bird its food, ,but, He does not throw it into the nest.

We need to trust the Lord but at the same time we should not forget to lock our vehicles.

Who to get even with?

Normally we never forget the ones who do us harm and we try to get even with them as soon as we get an opportunity to do so.

But in fact the people we need  to get even with should be the ones who do us good.

we need to learn to live in gratitude.

"It All Depends How we Take Our Tasks"

Every evening I have to get in both my wife's and my cars into the garage.  There are two moods in which I can do so. One is to grumble over it and the other is to feel grateful.  The choice is purely mine.

I can grumble over the task that under all circumstances and weather conditions I have to come out of the comforts of the house to do the needful. On the other hand I can thank my stars for being blessed to have the opportunity of possessing two cars which I have to park.  In the first case I shall be filled with stress and anger. In the second case being in the thankful mode I shall feel humble and happy. The choice is mine to get into whichever mood I want to.

So it is with all the other tasks that we perform. If we take them as burden we shall always grumble and remain in anger and if we take them as an opportunity to serve and feel blessed we shall remain happy and pretty much relaxed.

"Bounce Back"

One of the advertisements being shown now-a-days on TV channels which needs to be appreciated is that of HDFC's Life Insurance - "Bounce Back".

The ad shows a girl of Class IV or V in her school uniform being driven to or from the school by her father.  Father has been shown as sensible and concerned. He is able to read his daughter's mind and when he realizes that she is depressed due to her bad performance he stops his car near the site of his failed venture of the past and tells her "See this is the site of my past venture which inspite of my best efforts I couldn't manage to save, but still I bounced back.  So you needn't worry about your failures "Bounce Back". With these words a beautiful smile returns on his daughter's face.

This advertisement will surely help various students who at times do not perform well in their exams.  They will surely get encouraged to do well in life.
