Duties of House Inchages/Wardens

As I don’t have the experience of having worked in a residential school it shall be impertinent on my part to comment upon the duties which a teacher has to perform as a House Master in a residential school. With whatever I could gather from a friend of mine Mr. Balbir Singh Dhir, who worked as an English Teacher for many years in the Scindias at Gwalior and presently is working as the Principal in one of the prestigious schools at Indore, and with what I saw at Daly college Indore I can say that the responsibilities of a House Master in the schools is for greater than the non-residential schools.

Basically in Days school the House Warden (Master) has the following duties to perform :-

He should :-

note down the names of the students allotted to his House class wise in the register meant for it.
Whenever House period is allotted he should be prompt in reaching the class.
Encourage among students a competitive spirit.
Try to recognize the special talents possessed by students in his House and prepare them for various Inter House Competitions.
Keep a track of all Inter House Competitions and hand over the names of participants to the Inter House Competitions in charge.
Inform the students of his House regarding the rules, timing, venue of the competitions.
Keep a track of the competitions won by his House students and calculate the marks for his House as per the rules.
Maintain discipline of his House.
Give proper guidance (or seek it from others) for his students contingent in the March Past.
Exploit the talents of other House Tutors for the benefit of his students.
Consult Over All House Warden in case of any clarification required.

He shouldn’t :

request Inter House Competition Incharge to make last moment entries.
Discourage the students from participating in Inter House Competitions
Encourage students to comment on the performance of other House.Criticize upon the performance of other House students
