Report regarding activities/programmes/functions held during the month of December 2008

The following were the main activities/programmes/functions held in our school during the month of December 2008.
ACTIVITIES.

03-12-08 ‘Funeral of ‘I Can’t’
A symbolic cremation of ‘Mr. I Can’t’ was organized in the morning Assembly wherein the students and the staff cremated a list of all the good things which they feel they are unable to do. An eulogy was read out in which the hope was expressed that everyone present would learn to live without ‘I Can’t’ and would adopt ‘I Can and I Will’ as friends. Posters with I Can and I Will were put up all over the school.

04-12-08 Reading Day
Reading Day was celebrated in the school this year too in keeping with the tradition of the last few years. The students of all classes from Class II to XII were asked to bring any reading material of their choice which they all read in the stipulated time of 30 minutes..

06-12-08 Inter School Hindi Debate Competition
Inter School Hindi Debate Competition was organized in the school which was sponsored by the Lions Club Nigahi. About eight neighbouring schools participated in it. Each school was represented by one student for the motion, one against the motion and one interjector. The Topic of the Debate was ‘Ameriki Parmanu Karar Hamare Desh ke Vikas ke Liye Jaroori Hai’. The students spoke very well and were appreciated by the judges as well as by the guests from the Lion’s Club. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Raghavendra Dwivedi, Incharge of Police Station Mr. J N Srivastava, , Cabinet Treasurer Lion’s Club Nigahi, Mr Srivastava. District Mr. R B Singh, Chairman Lion’s Club and Mr. A K Singh Secretary Lion’s Club Nigahi were the other guests. The judges were Mrs. Beena Tiwari, Mrs..Usha Dwivedi, and Mr………… prize winners were:

In keeping with the tradition of the school, since our students won both the second prizes, the students who came third in both for and against the motion were also given a second prize.

08-12-08 to 24-12-08 Second Term Examination
The second Term Exams were conducted for the students of Clases X and XII.

10-12-08 Staff Meeting
A staff meeting was held in which the Principal briefed the teachers about the workshop for DPS Principals which he attended in Ahmedabad. The teachers were also shown a clipping of Dr. Karan Singh’s address to the students of IIM Ahmedabad on four pillars of learning. A couple of announcements regarding Inter House competitions were made and the teachers were also given some instructions regarding the day to day functioning of the school.

12-12-08 Guest Lecture
A lecture by Mr. B N Mishra was organized for the students of Classes VIII, IX and XI wherein they were given tips on development of memory. Mr. Mishra gave amazing examples of his own memory skills and held the students and the staff spell bound.



17th to 19th December ASSET
34 students from classes III to VIII took part in the test conducted by Educational Initiatives Limited.

18-12-08 2nd International Mathematics Olympiad
About 113 students of classes III to XI took part in the test conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation.

20-12-08 Inter House Hindi Kavita Paath and Mushaira Competition
The Kavita Paath was for Groups A, B and C and Mushaira was for Group D. The students were dressed in traditional outfits for the competition and their inspired performances lent a unique glow to the competition. The groups A and B did not have any topics and the students recited the poems in such an outstanding manner that they held the audience spellbound.

The topic chosen for Kavita Paath for group C was ‘Bhakti Ras’ and for Mushaira it was ‘Saadgi’ or ‘Samarpan’’. Some of the students recited the shers in the typical style of professional Shayars. The judges of the day were Mr. H R Rai, Deputy Chief Engineer Excavation NCL Singrauli , Ms Zarreen Rehman, Mr Aejaz Ahmed and Mr Anil Pandey. The competition was conducted by Dr. Ratnesh Sinha, PGT Hindi and Ms. Naina Dadlani TGT Hindi. The vote of thanks was proposed by Jaideep Singh, Cultural Secretary. 18-12-08 Intra Class Hindi Hindi Story Telling Competition
The competition was conducted for classes Nursery, Prep and I. There were 5 students from each who were selected after screening by the class teachers. The stories told by the students in their unique style enchanted the audience who were mostly the parents of the participants. Some cultural items were also presented. The judges for Nursery and Prep were Ms. Jasbeer Kaur Mann, Ms. Amita Sehgal and Mr. N P Mishra and those for Class I were Ms. Sharmishtha Ganguli, Dr. Ratnesh Sinha and Mr. B P Dwivedi. The school remained closed for the Winter Vacation from 25th t December to 5th t January, however some students attended the computer classes

MORNING ASSEMBLIES

The morning Assemblies in the school are something that everyone looks forward to. They have varied themes and are conducted class wise. Maximum participation is ensured by the class teachers. All special days are celebrated in these Assemblies. The Friday Assembly is marked by the Friday Series of Questions asked to the students by the members of the Quiz club.
