The following were the main activities/programmes/functions held in our school during the month of January 2009.
ACTIVITIES
06-01-09.School reopens
The school reopened on the 6th of January after the winter break.
08-01-09 Pre Board Examination begins
The Pre Board Exam for classes X and XII was conducted in the school from 8th January to 27th January 2009.
10-01-09 to 12-01-09 Vivekanand Memorial Inter School Football Tournament
An Inter school football tournament was organized by DPS Nigahi under the aegis of NCL Nigahi project on the initiative of the CGM Nigahi, Mr. S P Dutta Majumdar. Invitations were sent to 22 schools which come under the umbrella of NCL as well as the schools of neighbouring localities such as Gehrauli Kala. However, only 9 schools responded positively and took part in the tournament. All the matches were played in the spirit of the game. The CGM took keen interest in the tournament and was present on both inaugural and the closing functions to encourage the students. He was accompanied by Mrs. Anupama Datta Majumdar, President Mahila Mandal Nigahi, senior officials of NCL Nigahi, Ladies of the Mahila Mandal, Principals of the participating schools and other dignitaries. A short cultural programme was also organized by DPS Nigahi in the closing ceremony. The guests were very impressed by the Karate Demonstration by the students.
18-01-09 Inter DPS Science and Mathematics Talent Search
12 students of the school traveled to Delhi to appear in the second level of the exam. They were accompanied by Mr. LN Dash and Ms. Amita Sehgal.
17-01-09 Inter House Solo and Group Song Competition
The solo song competition was for groups C and D and the group song competition was for group A and B. The students sang melodious songs and captivated the audience. The group songs, one from each House, were alive with patriotic and the House spirit. The judges for the day, Mr. Tapas Das, Mr. Vij and Mr. Joshi also gave a Mouth organ and vocal recital at the end of the programme. The music teacher of the school, Mr. Navendu Nath Tiwari and Ms. Divya Srivastava PRT English also sang beautiful songs. Some self written poems were read out by Mr. Anil Kumar Pandey, PRT Maths. About 57 students took part in the Exam conducted by Computer Literacy Foundation.
24-01-09 Inter House Solo Dance Competition
The competition was held for the students of Groups A, B and C. It was made compulsory for one boy to participate from each House and their performance was also much appreciated. Separate prizes were kept for them. The programme was graced by the presence of Mrs. Anupama Datta Majumdar, the First lady of Nigahi township and President Mahila Mandal Nigahi Project who also judged the competition. Other senior members of Mahila Mandal Nigahi were also present and thoroughly enjoyed the dances and were full of praises for the programme. The other judges for the competition were Ms. Jasbeer Kaur Mann, Ms. Amita Sehgal and Ms.PJyoti.

25-01-09 NSTSE
The National Science Talent Search Exam organized by the Unified Council was held in the school and about 83 students from classes III to XII appeared for the same.
26-01-09 Republic Day Celebration
The 60th Republic Day was celebrated in the school with patriotic fervour. The Principal Mr. S S Thaper hoisted the National Flag. Some students and teachers gave speeches and recited poems in both English and Hindi, which reflected patriotism. The function in the school was followed by a programme in the Nigahi stadium, where our school also presented a dance and a group song, which were very much appreciated. The school also won the trophy for the best March Past.
28-01-09 SMC Meeting
The Chairperson of DPS Nigahi, Mrs Sharda Nayak visited the school to attend the Meeting of the School Management Committee which was held on 28th evening. The Meeting was attended by the PVC Mr. S P Dutta Majumdar and other local committee members.
29-01-09 Special Assembly in Honour of Mrs Sharda Nayak
A special Assembly was conducted in Sharda Ma’m’s honour on 29th morning. After the welcome song and welcome speech by the Head Boy, Pranav Jha, Class VII B conducted their regular Morning Asembly on Mahatma Gandhi because next day was Martyr’s Day. The Assembly was followed by Prize Distribution in which the Toppers of Class III of 2007-08 and the Board Class and subject Toppers of the last three sessions were felicitated. The parents were present in large numbers.to witness the prize distribution and in some cases to receive the prize on behalf of their wards. Mrs. Sharda Nayak,, Chairperson DPS Nigahi in her address implored the students to do whatever they do in the best possible way. To put in your best in whatever you do. Vote of thanks was proposed by the head girl, Anjana Verman.
29-01-09 Staff Interaction with the Chairperson and Dinner
In the evening there was an interaction session with the staff in which Mr. J Mohanty, Principal DPS Vindhyanagar and Mrs Mohanty were also present. The members first introduced themselves and then Ma’m addressed them. In her address she talked about the difference between ‘a job’ and ‘a role’ .She inspired the staff members to do a little more than what their job requires from them. Form a relationship with their students. She talked about encouraging the students to excel in whatever they are good at because each child would be good at something. She talked about having a vision when they teach. At the end of the session Mr. S P Datta Majumdar PVC, also joined the session and shared his views. The session ended with a dinner hosted by the staff of DPS Nigahi in which the Local School Management Committee members also joined.
31-01-09 Farewell to Class XII
The students of Class XI organized a Farewell for the outgoing batch. Some games were organized for them and refreshments were also kept. The students performed some cultural items which were highly appreciated. Some students of Class XII expressed their feelings on the occasion.
ACHIEVEMENTS
National Interactive Science Olympiad
24 students have secured scholarship cheques which they will be awarded at New Delhi on 15th May 2009.
International Informatics Olympiad
5 students have secured Gold Medals, 3 students Silver and 2 students Bronze in this competition. Two students will go for the second phase of the exam.
MBD
23 students of the school have got position at district level and 3 students have got ranks at State level.
MORNING ASSEMBLIES
The morning Assemblies in the school are something that everyone looks forward to. They have varied themes and are conducted class wise. Maximum participation is ensured by the class teachers. All special days are celebrated in these Assemblies. The Friday Assembly is marked by the Friday Series of Questions asked to the students by the members of the Quiz club.
